[Cafe special feature! ] Special feature on cafes in Kosai City that you should visit during Golden Week

The weather has become warm and spring-like.

Golden week is coming soon! !

As Golden Week approaches, my heart gets excited◎

So this time, we would like to introduce a special feature on cafes in Kosai City that you should visit during Golden Week!

*What is Golden Week?

It is a long holiday in Japan that occurs in early May when several national holidays overlap.

01.Stylish cafe Carol branch in front of the checkpoint

[Calm interior and exterior based on black]

The stately building in front of the Arai Sekisho used to be a bar until a few years ago, but it reopened as a cafe in 2022.

There are no signboards or information boards on the exterior, but the noren curtains draw the curiosity of people passing by.

Some people look at the sign on the heavy door and think it’s an ice cream shop!

Actually, this is a cafe!

Why are there no signboards or information boards?

The reason for this seems to be that they want people to learn about it in a natural way through word of mouth and SNS.

The store’s reputation will spread through SNS and the local community.

It is hoped that the lack of a sign will pique the interest of passersby and discover the store’s existence.

The interior of the store is baptized with black as the main color, just like the exterior.

There are 10 counter seats. There are 2 table seats.

Inside the store, miscellaneous goods with accents such as retro-style tableware are displayed and sold.

Enjoying food and drinks and being able to purchase your favorite items makes the cafe even more appealing.

[Cooking introduction]

What I received this time was the owner’s recommended “Motsunabe set meal”!

The main dish is the rich motsu nabe.

*Motsu is the part of the cow’s small intestine that is characterized by its firm texture.

The giblets, vegetables, and tofu are slowly simmered in a rich soup stock, and the deep flavor is appealing.

In addition to the giblet hotpot, the dish comes with rice, a small side dish, and pickles, making it very filling and satisfying.

You can enjoy the dishes served at the main store at Hamamatsu Station at the Carol branch.

Also, for an additional fee, you can get a ramen/zosui set to finish the meal, as well as cake and coffee/tea!

Dessert can be provided separately, and currently you can order cheesecake, gateau chocolat, and soft serve ice cream!

(as of 4/11)

Motsunabe’s dishes, which were originally served at the main store at Hamamatsu Station, are now also available at the Carol branch cafe.

[Rumoured rich cheesecake]

And the cheesecake that you often see on Carol Bunshitsu’s Instagram.

Currently, there are two types of cheesecake: strawberry and chocolate plain.

Cheesecakes sometimes come in flavors other than plain, so be sure to check them out◎

[Ice cream stand attached]

When you pass in front of the Carroll branch, you’ll see a soft serve ice cream sign.

When you see this sign, you’ll be intrigued and stop in your tracks!

The flavors of the soft serve ice cream change with the seasons, so it might be interesting to compare the different flavors!

Additionally, you can add macaron topping for an added touch of luxury!

When you’re walking around town, you’ll want to stop by. One of the attractions is to enjoy walking around the city while taking a break!

Please come and visit us!

02.“Cafe & Kitchen Kintaro” follows in the footsteps of “Kintaro”

The next one we will introduce is “cafe&kitchin Kintaro”◎

A modern Japanese cafe located in Araicho!

From the long-established Japanese confectionery shop “Kintaro”…

It is currently operating as a cafe restaurant, but it has actually been renovated and reopened as a long-established Japanese confectionery shop, “Kintaro”!

Kintaro used to be a long-established Japanese confectionery store that was established by the current owner’s grandfather as a peddler of cheap sweets in the early Showa era. The shop is currently run by the owner and his wife, who are their daughters.

Following in the footsteps of Kintaro, we renovated the building and breathed new life into it as Cafe & Kitchen Kintaro after about 20 years.

Inside the store, there are molds for sweets that were used in the past.

Apparently, this mold was used to make Rakugan, Nerikiri, etc.

I can feel the history◎

Recommended weekly lunch menu

Weekly lunch that changes every week!

The weekly menu offers approximately 13 types in rotation! There are many kinds◎

Among them, the one that attracts repeat customers is definitely the stewed hamburger! In addition, there are many elaborate dishes such as Tianjin rice and omelet rice with fried chicken.

It has the best taste that will satisfy your mind and body every time you taste it!

We also recommend the popular Loco Moco (pictured above) and the spicy curry lunch (pictured below) where you can choose from 3 types [beef tendon, grilled chicken, and hamburger]!

At lunch, you can also have an after-meal drink available for an additional 280 yen.

Traditional sweets “Swama”

We are also working on PR activities for “Suwama”, which is a popular specialty of Arai Town, and have created a map introducing the local traditional sweets called “Suwa Map”, and are promoting the traditional taste of the area. We value it and play a part in supporting the local culture.

Suwama’s arranged recipes are also available!

When you visit “Cafe&Kitchin Kintaro”, you can enjoy the variety of attractive Suwama flavors that are unique to the shop◎

*Please contact the store regarding the sale period of Suwama.

In addition, during strawberry season, we also offer sweets made with fresh strawberries from local Shibata Farm.

“Cafe & Kitcken Kintaro” has a wide variety of menu options!

It’s a wonderful cafe that combines Japanese style and modernity, and you’ll never get tired of it no matter when you visit. Please come and visit us and experience its charm for yourself!

《Basic information for each service area》

A drop of nature grown in Hamamatsu Tenryu Forest. “Kuromoji tea” made from trees

This year too, the delicious treasure grown in the forest, “Kicoro forest scented tea,” will be coming to town.

It is Kuromoji tea from Tenryu Forest, which was created with the idea of being an “entrance to get people interested in the forest,” and is harvested only once a year in early spring.

I first encountered this tea four years ago. At a cafe in Tenryu Ward, a friend recommended it to me and said, “This Kuromoji tea is delicious. It’s made from wood.” When I asked her, “What is a tree? You mean the leaves on that tree?”, she answered that they were not actually leaves. When we think of tea, we think of green tea or herbal tea, which is made from soft materials such as leaves and flower petals. So when I was told that it was made from wood, I couldn’t imagine it.

What arrived on the table was a gentle pink tea with a very nice aroma that overturned the image of “wood”.

You may not be familiar with the “Kuromoji” tree, but you might know it as a sweet toothpick used to cut up Japanese sweets and bring them to your mouth.

Nowadays, many of them are made of plastic or other wood, but they were originally made from the Kuromoji tree, which has a pleasant aroma and antibacterial properties. It is well known that when Sen no Rikyu, a famous tea master, made tea for Oda Nobunaga and Toyotomi Hideyoshi, he offered them a freshly shaved fragrant toothpick from a branch of the Kuromoji tree in his garden. The scent of Kuromoji may have soothed the spirits of war-torn military commanders.

Japanese sweets and Kuromoji cutting sweets

Kuromoji is said to be an aromatic native to Japan, and its refreshing yet sweet scent is said to have antiviral and relaxing effects. It is said that it is also included in Chanel No. 5, and it is a tree that is like the savior of today’s times.

Kuromoji has been drunk for treatment and health since ancient times. A herbal medicine called Usho is made from the leaves and branches, and it is also brewed and drunk as a health tea. So, what is the difference between Tenryu no Mori’s Kuromoji tea and the health teas that have been drunk up until now?

The person who makes Tenryu Forest’s Kuromoji tea is Mr. Takeshi Maeda, who works as a “visible woodcutter” to connect the mountains and the city. Even though I don’t like the outdoors or the rain, I was selfish because I wanted to see the black moji tree. Then, on a rainy day at the start of the rainy season, Mr. Maeda showed me around Kikoro Forest in Tenryu.
