Takane Castle

  • Culture
This mountain temple sits at an elevation of 420 meters in the northernmost part of Enshu. It was built on the summit of a mountain that's commonly known as Mt. Sankaku. The castle underwent major repairs courtesy of Takeda Shingen and his son Katsuyori. It became a base for the border patrol, who kept a watchful eye on the main road down below. In more recent years, the watchtower and gate were restored. You can feel the atmosphere of a mountain castle during the Sengoku Era (Warring States period).
