Amamo (Seagrass) in Lake Hamana
・Recommended Age: 4 and up
・What You Can Experience: Take a boat tour of Lake Hamana and explore the Amamo seagrass beds with a fisherman guide.
・Schedule: From around March 2025 to Sunday, August 31, 2025 (*some dates excluded)
・Hours: Daily tours start every hour on the hour from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, lasting 45 minutes each.
Enjoy a digital detox as you take a boat ride, feeling the sea breeze and scent, and listening to the soothing sound of the waves.
Departing from just a 3-minute walk from JR Bentenjima Station, hop on a boat and set off onto Lake Hamana!
A fisherman guide will take you on a boat tour around the southern side of Lake Hamana, where you can see the Amamo seagrass beds growing right from the boat.
Amamo is a type of seaweed that serves as a hiding place for clams and small creatures. In Lake Hamana, it’s affectionately called the “nursery of the sea.”
In recent years, Amamo has also been featured in TV programs and projects, gaining quite a bit of attention!
The growth of Amamo also plays an important role in “blue carbon,” a process where it absorbs CO2 directly from the atmosphere.
It’s a great learning opportunity for kids, too!

Showa Gakki Seizo, established in 1947, is Japan’s only instrument maker dedicated exclusively to manufacturing harmonicas.
Many of the harmonicas you see at places like Hamamatsu Station are made by Showa Gakki Seizo.
In this experience, you’ll learn about the history and culture of the harmonica through easy-to-understand videos, and get hands-on by tuning reeds yourself—getting a real feel for how these instruments are made.

[Yamaya Soy Sauce’s Hamanatto] Fermented food without food additives, preservatives, or chemical seasonings! The secret of Tokugawa Ieyasu’s longevity? !
Hamanatto is a fermented food made by fermenting soybeans with koji mold and aging them for over a year.
Although it is called “natto,” it is actually a member of the miso family. It is said to have a high antioxidant effect, about 1.7 times that of regular stringy natto, and about 20 times that of firm tofu.
The antioxidant properties of Hamanatto are said to have the effect of “suppressing active oxygen that has negative effects on health” and “supporting immunity.” It is said that it may have played a role in the secret to Tokugawa Ieyasu’s longevity!
You can eat it as is or use it as a seasoning.
There are many ways to enjoy Hamanatto depending on how you arrange it.
This month’s recommendation is “Yamaya Soy Sauce”, which continues to make “Hama-natto” using the traditional method🍚
Anti-aging without waiting for spring with pure white onions from Shinohara, which is the earliest harvested in Japan!
Blood thinning, fatigue recovery, constipation relief, and anti-aging. All of these are health words that you may be interested in.
There’s something about this health word that really hits home. Onions are a classic vegetable that everyone knows. You can boil it, stir-fry it, or have it in Japanese, Western, or Chinese style! It is a versatile ingredient.
I think many people are aware of the high nutritional value of onions, which have been featured frequently on health programs in recent years, but did you know that onions are sensitive to heat and water? It is said that eating raw is the best way to absorb nutrients more effectively. However, regular onions have a uniquely strong spiciness and are difficult to eat raw.
Therefore, I would like to recommend pure white onions from Shinohara, Chuo-ku, Hamamatsu City, which are less spicy. They are the earliest onions in Japan to be shipped early in the new year, and are delicious and can be eaten raw.

Speaking of onions that can be eaten raw, “new onions” are in season from spring to early summer (March to May). Shinohara-grown white onions are faster than that. It will be available from January, right after the New Year. The Shinohara district is located in the south of Hamamatsu City, close to the sea. The region has been a thriving producer of onions since the Meiji era, with a warm climate suitable for growing onions, sandy soil with good drainage, and a high groundwater level.
However, rather than the typical brown onions with dry skins, the onions produced here are harvested with green leaves and are shipped immediately. It is shipped under names such as “salad onion,” “white onion,” and “white onion.”
