This time, we joined the Hamamatsu & Lake Hamana Tourism Ambassadors to actually try the “Scenic Sunset Plan,” and we’re excited to share all the highlights with you!

*Just to be clear, this experience doesn’t involve actual paragliding—you’ll enjoy the views from the paragliding site without taking to the skies.

Enjoy the Sunset from the Mountaintop at Hamana Lake Paragliding School

Hamana Lake Paragliding School, located in Mikkabi Town, Hamana Ward, Hamamatsu City, Shizuoka Prefecture, is a professional paragliding school with a complete training program.

In particular, the winter-only “Scenic Sunset Plan” we’re featuring has been attracting attention and is already creating a buzz on social media.

All aboard the trolley train!

After checking in at the Hamana Lake Paragliding School shop, we hopped into the school’s private vehicle and drove along a forest road for about 15 minutes.

When we arrived at the monorail station, it was time to switch to a special monorail, like a little trolley train, that would take us up to the mountaintop at 420 meters above sea level!

Our guide for the tour was Mr. Tsubasa Aoki, the head of Hamana Lake Paragliding School.

The monorail rattling along between the trees felt just like a fun amusement ride!

The green tunnel of trees on either side and the gradually unfolding views of Lake Hamana were so beautiful, we couldn’t resist snapping photos along the way.

The excitement along the way is part of what makes this experience so special.

After about 10 minutes, we reached the mountaintop, where a beautiful panoramic view awaited us!

Stepping off the trolley train, we were greeted by the beautiful scenery from 420 meters above sea level.

This is the take-off point for paragliders, and with nothing to block the view, it offers a stunning panorama of Lake Hamana stretching out below.

On this day, we reached the mountaintop just before sunset, while the sky still held a hint of blue.

The bright sunlight lit up the natural surroundings, painting Lake Hamana and the distant mountains in beautiful colors.

Until it’s time for the sunset, you can sit back on the soft cushions and enjoy a quiet, relaxing moment with a full sense of openness.

Feeling the wind and being surrounded by nature is a luxurious experience that makes you forget the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Finally, it’s sunset time! Be captivated by the changing scenery

As the sun neared the horizon, the sky gradually turned a deep crimson, and we couldn’t take our eyes off the ever-changing view.

By the time the sun dipped below the horizon, the entire sky was bathed in golden light, and the silhouettes of the mountains emerged beautifully.

Lake Hamana stretching out in the distance was also bathed in the sunset glow, and the whole scene gradually shifted into gentle, peaceful colors—truly like a painting.

Even the two ambassadors couldn’t help but be captivated by the stunning beauty.

One of the unique things about the sunset view is that its appearance changes depending on the day’s weather and the clouds.

On this day, we were blessed with clear skies and enjoyed a gradient-like view stretching from the sky down to the surface of the lake.

There were a few clouds in the sky, but the light streaming through the breaks in the clouds created a truly magical atmosphere.

Watching the scenery change with time, we found our hearts strangely becoming calm and peaceful.

Cheers with Hot Mikan Juice While Watching the Sunset

As part of the “Scenic Sunset Plan” at the mountaintop, you’re treated to a special hospitality: hot Mikkabi mikan juice from Wada Farm.

Since the mountaintop is at a high elevation, the air can get quite chilly on winter evenings.

The warm mikan juice helps to cozy up your body and keep you comfortably warm.

The two ambassadors also toasted with hot mikan juice.

Leaning back on the soft cushions and sipping the gently flavored mikan juice while gazing out over Lake Hamana below, we couldn’t help but smile and say, “This really feels relaxing.”

With the sweet and tangy aroma of Mikkabi mikan gently filling the air, the warmth seemed to seep into our hearts, creating a truly romantic moment.

Why not experience hot mikan juice on the mountaintop, bathed in the glow of the setting sun?

The “Scenic Sunset Plan” wraps up the mountaintop portion before it gets dark (before sunset), but the activities aren’t over yet.

Heading back down on the trolley train!

And here’s the surprise—your ride back down on the trolley train is just as thrilling.

As the sun dipped lower and the forest grew darker, the trolley train made its way slowly down the mountain.

The ride had a different kind of thrill from the way up, keeping the excitement alive right until the very end.
