If you take a look at the official website of the Lake Hamana Direct Market, you’ll see a wide selection of products that are filled with the producers’ passion!

This month’s recommendation is the online shopping site “Hamanako Farmers Market” ☆

The story behind the creation of Lake Hamana Farm Market

The Lake Hamana Direct Market is operated by Climberworks Co., Ltd., a company active in a wide range of fields including website production, branding development, consulting, and digital media production.

“The western region of Shizuoka Prefecture is blessed with the sea, mountains, rivers and lakes, and is like a treasure box filled with delicious food,” says Mr. Ryo Nakamura, the company’s representative, who enjoys traveling both domestically and abroad.

“Because I often travel to many different regions, I often get to experience the wonderfulness of local Lake Hamana area ingredients. I would be happy if people all over Japan could learn about the deliciousness of Lake Hamana food.” With this in mind, in 2014 he started operating an online shopping site that offers a selection of the most delicious foods from around Lake Hamana.

We have teamed up with producers to deliver the deliciousness of fresh white onions, sweet corn, and eel, which are all readily available locally, to customers in their original form, and we operate a website that aims to bring smiles to people’s faces through food.

This is what makes us different from general online shopping sites! Hamanako Farmers Market's Commitment

The products sold at Lake Hamana Direct Market are all high-quality items that are filled with the producers’ passion.

We share the beliefs of “food quality” and “delivering fresh produce directly” with our producers.

For example, the most popular item at Lake Hamana Direct Market is “Lake Hamana Freshly Killed Eel.”

When it comes to grilled eel sold online, many people may think of “vacuum packed” or “frozen.”

However, for their “Lake Hamana Freshly Caught Eel,” the live eel is carefully butchered and grilled by skilled craftsmen on the morning of the shipping date, and we insist on delivering it refrigerated so that you can enjoy the taste of a famous restaurant right to your door.

The freshly caught eel is prepared with the hope that customers will enjoy the taste of fresh eel.

Popular products ranking at Lake Hamana direct sales market from autumn to winter

This time, we will introduce the top 5 most popular products from Lake Hamana Farmers Market, which is filled with carefully selected ingredients, in a ranked order.

Not only can you enjoy them at home, but these delicious treats also make great gifts!

1st place: Lake Hamana Freshly-caught Eel

As expected, the most popular item is the “Lake Hamana Freshly Caught Eel” that we introduced earlier.

“Freshly caught eel” is delivered by a skilled eel craftsman who butchers the live eel on the morning of shipment and delivers it to you via refrigerated delivery.

The kabayaki is made with a premium sauce that brings out the best flavor of the eel, and is grilled until crispy and fragrant. It is a masterpiece packed with thick meat, refined eel fat, and umami flavor.

You can choose from three types: kabayaki, shirayaki, and a combination set of kabayaki and shirayaki.

Because there is a limit to the number of eels that our chefs prepare first thing in the morning, this popular item sells out during special events such as Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. Please enjoy the luxury of freshly prepared eels.

2nd place: Chojuro Persimmon

The product name “Chojuro” was named after the age of the persimmon tree.

Old trees that are over 20 years old have long branches and many leaves, giving them a strong ability to photosynthesize.

Persimmons grown under the abundant blessings of the sun have a high sugar content and a rich sweetness.

“Chojuro” will only be available for a limited time from November to December, so don’t miss out!

3rd place: “Freshly picked, fully ripe Mikkabi mandarin oranges, early harvest (shipped November to December)”

Mikkabi mandarins are characterized by their exquisite balance of sourness and sweetness.

Mandarin oranges grown in the warm, sun-drenched Lake Hamana region have a concentrated umami flavor and a juicy taste.

The early varieties are shipped from November to December, and the Aoshima varieties are shipped from January to February.

As of October 2024, we are currently accepting reservations.

4th place: “The legendary white onion, Premium White”

“White onions” are grown locally in Shinohara Town, Hamamatsu.

This local vegetable is very popular with children because it is not spicy even when eaten raw, and is juicy and sweet.

New onions, which can be eaten from the end of the year, are rare across the country.

White onions in particular are also known as the “phantom onion” because they can only be grown in certain areas, and are a product that is often featured in the media.

Reservations for 2024 will begin in October.

This freshly squeezed Mikkabi mandarin juice, without any additives, sells out every year.

We use the Aoshima variety of Mikkabi mandarins, which is highly regarded nationwide.

It is made entirely from mandarin oranges without any concentration or use of a single drop of water, and has an exquisite balance of rich sweetness and acidity, making it a flavor you will never tire of.

A message to our readers from Mr. Ryo Nakamura, CEO of Climberworks Co., Ltd., which operates the Lake Hamana Farmers Market.

It’s been 10 years since we launched Lake Hamana Farm Market. My own understanding of my hometown, Hamamatsu, was a very general one: that it was a world-famous industrial city.

Since I had the opportunity to encounter agricultural and marine products around Lake Hamana, the more I learn about them, the more I touch them, and the more I eat them, the more I realize that my hometown is truly a “treasure trove of food.”

I learned that Hamamatsu is consistently ranked within the top 10 in Japan in terms of agricultural production and hours of sunshine, and that it has one of the most favorable environments in the country.

My personal life’s work involves traveling to urban and remote areas around the world and living for short periods in local communities.

When you visit these places, what you experience strongly is the richness, deliciousness, and high quality of food in Japan and Hamamatsu.

Each time I do this, I feel proud of my hometown Hamamatsu and feel a strong desire to have as many people as possible get to know and taste the ingredients from the Enshu region, centered around Hamamatsu, and the Lake Hamana region.

I strongly feel that knowing the appeal of these products and being able to communicate it with confidence, as people from Hamamatsu, will support local products and producers and be the first step in regional development.

I will continue to enjoy running this business together with my company staff in order to discover the amazing gourmet food around Lake Hamana that we have yet to discover.

What did you think? This month’s recommendation is the “Lake Hamana Direct Market,” which offers a selection of Lake Hamana’s famous products.

Why not treat yourself or give some of the delicious ingredients that the Lake Hamana region is proud of as a gift?

Feel the breeze of Hamamatsu/Lake Hamana! Let’s go around on a rental bike ② Touring around the “dragon”

I went on a touring tour using YSP Hamamatsu’s rental bike in the summer and it was so much fun and unforgettable that I thought I’d go touring somewhere nearby again! That’s what we talked about.

I decided to go on a touring trip with a theme, so I decided to go on a motorcycle trip with the title “Touring around the dragons of Lake Okuhamana.” I would like to introduce that situation.

Approximately 450,000 people visit annually! What is the secret behind the popularity of the honey from Nagasaka Bee Farm (Hamamatsu City Hamana Ward), which has been in business for 89 years?

In 2001, Nagasaka Bee Farm moved from the Mikkabi shopping district to a new location along the shores of Lake Hamana, and this year marks the 89th anniversary of its founding.

“Nagasaka Bee Farm”, which is visited by approximately 450,000 tourists a year in a store the size of a convenience store, is known for its smiling staff, courteous customer service, and delicious honey made from local Mikkabi mandarin orange flowers. It has a wide variety of original processed products and is known for its high customer satisfaction.

From inside the store, you can see a lush courtyard where you can watch the natural activities of bees, and there is also plenty of playfulness, such as quizzes that are sure to pique the interest of visitors.

“Nagasaka Bee Farm” welcomes visitors with easy-to-understand product pop-ups and sample samples, and the “honey soft serve ice cream” that you can take out is also very popular.

The sweetness and richness of the vanilla soft-serve ice cream is so sweet that the honey is kneaded into the cream, and the final touch is “Oi-honey!!” The staff will show off the oi-honey right in front of you. This is a huge hit, with up to 2,000 units sold in one day.

This month’s recommendation is the popular store in Mikkabi-cho, “Nagasaka Bee Farm”♪

Go for a leisurely bike ride to Lake Hamana

Lately, when I’m walking or driving on the road, I’ve begun to often see people cycling in the Hamanako area. He looks very cool wearing sportswear and riding a special bicycle.

I wanted to try it too, but I just couldn’t take the first step. This is because of the impression of cycling and the height of the hurdles.

What kind of image do you have when you hear the word “cycling”? Prepare a special bicycle, wear special clothing, and ride the bicycle vigorously. There are probably rules such as roads you can run on and roads you shouldn’t run on. However, as a beginner, these impressions made me feel that it would be a difficult hurdle to start cycling on my own, and I had a hard time mustering up the courage to do so. I got information that a cycling tour around Lake Hamana was being held in such a place, so I decided to participate in the cycling tour.
