Mofumofu Happy: A Relaxing ‘Bird Café’ Where You Can Interact with Birds

It’s a relaxing spot where colorful and adorable birds welcome you. It’s a very warm and soothing spot, so why not add Mofumofu Happy to your Kanzanji sightseeing plans?…

This time, we visited Mofumofu Happy, a café where you can interact with parrots and parakeets, located along Kanzanji Monzen Street in Kanzanji-cho, Chuo-ku, Hamamatsu.

In the ‘Mofumofu Area,’ you can interact with adorable, colorful parakeets and parrots that fly freely around the room and even perch on your head or shoulders.

The space is filled with charm, where you can be soothed by their adorable gestures and cheerful chirping.

From the café area, you can also enjoy watching the birds through the glass!

Now, let’s take a closer look at Mofumofu Happy!

What Kind of Place is Mofumofu Happy?

Opened in November 2019, the bird café Mofumofu Happy will celebrate its 6th anniversary this November.

The café’s owner, Naoya Yamamoto, was inspired to open the bird café after encountering a momo-iro parrot (rose-breasted cockatoo).

During his time as a company employee, Mr. Yamamoto’s mental health suffered due to excessive work.

Worried for him, his wife invited him to a bird café for a change of pace, which became a turning point in his life.

Mr. Yamamoto recalls that when a momo-iro parrot (rose-breasted cockatoo) perched on his hand at the bird café, tears naturally welled up and he felt deeply healed.

On the drive home, he decided in his heart to quit his job and give running a bird café a try.

After about five years of preparation, the bird café Mofumofu Happy officially opened.

Among the many styles of bird cafés, Mofumofu Happy stands out as a bird-first facility.

The ‘Mofumofu Area’ is designed so that 30 birds of 10 different species can live freely, making it a space full of the owner Mr. Yamamoto’s kindness.

Because the friendly birds often perch on your head or shoulders, you can gently pet them, take photos together, and enjoy your time in whichever way you like.

In the center of the room, fresh vegetables and feed are provided, so you can also watch the birds enjoying their cute mealtime.

If you’d like to learn more about the birds’ behavior and habits, be sure to ask the owner, Mr. Yamamoto.

He can tell you all about their origins, personalities, and the colorful feathers, giving you a detailed look at their behavior.

Highlights of Mofumofu Happy

Mofumofu Happy has two main areas: the ‘Mofumofu Area’ and the café area.

Another nice point is that if you order a drink, you’re allowed to bring your own food.

Let’s take a closer look at each area.

Highlight ①: Mofumofu Area

The “Mofumofu Area” is a space where you can interact with the birds.

The interactive experience is available in timed sessions of 15, 30, or 45 minutes.

You can choose the session length to fit your travel plans.

Since you can change your session partway through, it’s a good idea to start with a shorter experience and extend the time if you like.

Since there are birds in the area that are quite dexterous with their beaks, clothing with buttons or similar items is not allowed.

Towels are available to borrow, so if you’re concerned, just ask the staff.

To prevent the birds from accidentally swallowing anything, it’s recommended to remove any accessories before entering the Mofumofu Area.

The friendly birds may perch on your head or shoulders.

Gently pet them, take photos together, and fully enjoy your relaxing time.

Chairs are also available in the area, so it’s a good idea to sit down and take your time observing the birds.

The most popular plan is the 60-minute Mofumofu & Café experience.

1,200 yen for junior high school students and older, 600 yen for elementary school students, and 200 yen for children aged 3 and up.

Drinks are charged separately, but after spending plenty of time with the birds, you can relax in the café area, enjoy a drink, and watch the birds in the Mofumofu Area.

*Prices as of October 2025.

Highlight ②: Café Area

The ‘Café Area’ is a space where you can watch the birds in the Mofumofu Area through the glass.

Perches are set up in the Mofumofu Area so the birds can rest, and from the café area, you can enjoy watching the birds’ adorable expressions through the glass.

Take your time observing the birds, sketching them, or simply enjoying the experience in your own way.

Some visitors are those who are thinking, ‘I’d like to try keeping a bird,’ as well as those who already have birds at home but aren’t sure about the best way to interact with or care for them.

The owner, Mr. Yamamoto, is happy to share all the knowledge he has for the well-being of the birds, so feel free to ask him any questions.

Café Menu

In the café area of Mofumofu Happy, you can order drinks, ice cream, cream sodas, as well as pasta and light meals.

*Menu prices as of October 1, 2025.

This time, we tried the recommended “Vanilla Shake Parfait.”

Relaxing while watching my favorite bird, “Zoo,” through the glass.

The vanilla ice cream is shaped like a cute bird’s face, making it perfect for photos!
