With its expansive lawns, breezes sweeping in from the lake, and sunsets over Lake Hamana, this spot offers a rare taste of open, natural beauty just a short distance from the city.

Located in Maisaka-cho, Chuo-ku, Hamamatsu, Shizuoka Prefecture, “Nagisaen Campground” is a camping spot set on a “floating island” created by reclaiming part of Lake Hamana, where nature and urban life blend harmoniously.

It’s part of a multi-use complex that includes sports facilities and a park, and on weekends it’s bustling not only with campers but also with people enjoying walks and fishing.

With its expansive lawns, breezes sweeping in from the lake, and sunsets over Lake Hamana, this spot offers a rare taste of open, natural beauty just a short distance from the city.

This time, we’re introducing the popular Nagisaen Campground!

What’s Nagisaen Campground Like?

Nagisaen Campground, located in Maisaka-cho, Chuo-ku, Hamamatsu, Shizuoka Prefecture, sits on an “artificial island” created by land reclamation starting in 1946 on what was once part of Lake Hamana.

In the 1960s, the former Maisaka-cho developed the area as a facility aimed at comprehensive tourism.

Between the 1970s and 1990s, a rest house, tennis courts, and other amenities were added, and the site became a bustling venue for large-scale concerts.

On April 1, 1999, it reopened as the current Nagisaen Campground, becoming a beloved leisure spot where nature and the city sit side by side.

The campground features open sites that make full use of its vast lawns, and windbreaks have been installed to ensure a comfortable stay.

Known for its clear sightlines and sense of openness, Nagisaen Campground is popular with a wide range of visitors, from families and solo campers to those with pets and fans of the hit camping anime series “Yuru Camp△.”

Nagisaen Campground Highlights Guide

First, let’s take a closer look at the main attractions of Nagisaen Campground.

Highlight 1: Expansive Lawns and Refreshing Breezes

Nagisaen Campground features roughly 10,000㎡ of open camping areas, with vast lawns stretching as far as the eye can see.

The space feels so open that the individual sites hardly seem divided, making it perfect for setting up tarps or large tents with plenty of room to spare.

The campground enjoys excellent ventilation, so even in summer the shade and lake breezes make for a comfortable, relaxing stay.

In the evening, it’s also a treat to watch the sunset over Lake Hamana.

Highlight 2: Variety of Site Types and Pet-Friendly Areas

The auto sites are generously sized at 10 m × 10 m each, and among the 150 sites, 10 are equipped with electrical (AC) outlets.

There are also six auto sites dedicated to visitors with pets, two of which come with electrical outlets.

A dog run is also available on-site, allowing your furry friends to play freely and enjoy themselves.

The open camping area offers space for about 50 tents, making it ideal for solo campers or day-use visits.

Highlight 3: Anime Pilgrimage Appeal and Convenient Access

Its convenient location—just a 10-minute walk from JR Bentenjima Station—is another appealing feature.

By car, it’s about a 20-minute drive from the Tomei Hamamatsu Nishi IC or the Kanzanji Smart IC.

It’s also known as the campground featured in Episode 3 of the popular anime “Yuru Camp△ SEASON 2,” making it a popular destination for fans on anime pilgrimage.

The Nagisa Bridge at the main entrance served as the model for a memorable scene in the series.
