Hamakita is a place noted to be connected to the Man’yoshu, Japan’s oldest poetry anthology, compiled around the middle of the 8th century BC. The festival splendidly recreates the imagery from Man’yoshu and Tenpyo scrolls, named for the era they come from (729 – 749).
