Hamamatsu Gyoza Hamataro – Gyoza Factory On-site with Glass-Window Views of the Production Process

Let’s take a closer look at “Hamamatsu Gyoza Hamataro – Gyoza Center,” where these carefully crafted dumplings are made and served.

Our destination this time is “Hamamatsu Gyoza Hamataro – Gyoza Center,” located in Nakagawa, Hosoe-cho in Hamamatsu’s Hamana Ward.

This shop is connected to its own gyoza factory, allowing visitors to watch the dumpling-making process through glass windows.

Here, you can enjoy freshly made gyoza, with more than ten varieties crafted using locally sourced ingredients.

Their gyoza are packed with rich flavor, thanks to a special soup blended into the filling—a secret touch that makes them especially popular.

Let’s take a closer look at “Hamamatsu Gyoza Hamataro – Gyoza Center,” where these carefully crafted dumplings are made and served.

What Kind of Place Is Hamamatsu Gyoza Hamataro – Gyoza Center?

Hamataro first began on October 28, 2010.

Its very first location opened in Handayama in Hamamatsu’s Chuo Ward as an antenna shop for Toa Kogyo Co., Ltd., a specialized manufacturer that has devoted over 50 years to producing gyoza-making machines.

In March 2017, Hamataro opened the Hamamatsu Gyoza Hamataro – Gyoza Center in Hosoe Town.

Since then, the brand has expanded with the Koudachi location and the Hamamatsu Station-front location, now operating a total of four shops.

Hamamatsu Gyoza Hamataro – Gyoza Center is a unique store where visitors can watch the gyoza production process through glass windows inside the shop.

The kitchen is open so that guests can clearly see how the gyoza they eat are made and brought to the table, offering a transparent view that highlights both safety and peace of mind.

They offer more than ten kinds of gyoza at all times.

In addition to the classic Red and White Gyoza, the menu features a wide variety, including Sakura Shrimp Gyoza and Asa-tama Gyoza—both winners of the Grand Prix at the 2012 Hamamatsu Gyoza Festival’s “G1 Gyoza Championship”—as well as Kimchi Gyoza, Shrimp Gyoza, and many more.

As you step inside, you’ll notice a large calligraphic artwork on the front wall.

It expresses the warm, satisfying feeling of enjoying Hamataro’s gyoza—filling both your stomach and your heart.

Hamamatsu Gyoza Hamataro – Gyoza Center: “Our Commitment to Gyoza”

Hamataro makes its gyoza with carefully selected ingredients, driven by the hope that everyone can enjoy them with complete peace of mind.

They use cabbage grown by contracted farmers in Hamamatsu, and pork called “Hamanako Sodachi,” produced with special attention to its feed.

“Hamanako Sodachi” pork is raised on grains that are safe enough for humans to consume, produced at the company’s own feed plant.

This results in meat that is tender and free of any strong odor.

It is a branded pork that won first place in the Flavor Category of the “Brand Pork Favorability Contest,” and when heated, it releases an abundance of delicious juices from within.

The gyoza wrappers are also homemade, developed jointly from the wheat flour stage.

Even the dipping sauce and chili oil are made in-house, reflecting Hamataro’s commitment to offering complete safety and peace of mind.

It’s reassuring for parents too, knowing their children can enjoy these gyoza with confidence.

Recommended Dishes at Hamamatsu Gyoza Hamataro

From here, let’s take a look at some of Hamataro’s recommended menu items.

1. Red Gyoza & White Gyoza

When it comes to Hamataro’s classics, you can’t miss the Red Gyoza made with Japanese garlic, and the White Gyoza, which contains no garlic at all.

The White Gyoza is a healthy option made with plenty of natural collagen, offering a nice balance of beauty and wellness.

It’s said to be especially popular among women.

For pan-fried gyoza, you can choose from a Single (6 pieces), Double (12 pieces), or Triple (18 pieces), and the signature circular style is available starting from 12 pieces.

If you order six Red and six White, they’ll grill them together in a single circular serving—perfect for anyone who wants to try both.

This time, we tried their most popular combination: the Red Gyoza with Japanese garlic and the White Gyoza!

The grilled side is perfectly crisp, while the inside is juicy with the natural sweetness of cabbage and pork.

The wrapper is pleasantly chewy, creating the perfect balance with the filling!

Both the garlic-packed Red Gyoza and the garlic-free White Gyoza have a light, refreshing flavor, making them so delicious you can keep eating one after another.

2. Kimchi Gyoza

Next is the Kimchi Gyoza, recommended by Store Manager Mr. Sugiura of the Hamataro Gyoza Center.

These dumplings are filled generously with kimchi, but they’re not as spicy as they look.

They work perfectly as a side dish with rice—very much an “okazu”-style gyoza.

Even those who aren’t great with spicy food will probably find them easy to enjoy.

It’s a flavor you’ll crave even more during the colder seasons, and they were absolutely delicious! ☆
