A Wonderland of Floral Beauty at Hamamatsu Flower Park

Along the edge of Lake Hamana and adjacent to the Hamamatsu Zoological Garden is the Hamamatsu Flower Park, established in 1970. This picturesque botanical garden showcases a staggering variety of flowers and plants. Spanning over 300,000 square meters and displaying more than 3,000 species of plants, the park offers visitors a delightful escape into a world of natural beauty and tranquility.

A World of Flora in One Place

Just through the park’s main gate is the prominent Dancing Fountain with its jets of water choreographed to music. Beyond that stands the resplendent Crystal Palace greenhouse, where you will be captivated by the lush, tropical plants in the Bali Garden and the intriguingly geometric cacti and other succulents in the Mexico Garden. These fascinating displays and the arrangements of seasonal blooming flowers throughout the greenhouse will soon have you reaching for your camera.

Outside, you can view the park’s well-maintained gardens with their diverse floral displays. From spring through autumn, the sweetly fragrant roses in their garden near the greenhouse compete for attention with the other seasonal flowers in bloom—vivid tulips and soft-pink cherry blossoms, white and purple wisteria, brilliantly colored azaleas, pastel hydrangeas, delicate lotus flowers, and vibrant chrysanthemums.

Take a Break on the Flower Train

The Flower Train, a popular attraction at Hamamatsu Flower Park, is a charming locomotive-led road train that takes visitors on a scenic journey past lush gardens and floral landscapes. With five stops along its route, you can conveniently hop on the train and enjoy the fifteen-minute circular course. The Flower Train provides a unique vantage point to admire the meticulously arranged flower beds, vibrant colors, and fragrant blossoms, while giving your legs a rest.

The park is also a great place for children, their excitement rising as they ride the fun Flower Train and spot whimsical topiary with oddly shaped trees and shrubs, some in the form of animals. But once they catch sight of the massive Ferris wheel standing out among the trees, they will soon be clamoring to visit Kids Square. Besides the colorful Ferris wheel, this dedicated area for children offers fun tricycles, miniature electric cars, and inflatable play equipment.

Taste Healthy, Fresh Vegetables and the Park’s Very Own Honey

With several charming cafés and restaurants located throughout the park, you can easily find a place to rest and relax. Some, like the café inside the Crystal Palace greenhouse, give you the chance to appreciate the natural beauty up close. The larger café and restaurant Hana-no-Sanpomichi near the main gate is famous for its curry dish topped with fresh vegetables from the park director’s own farm. It also has desserts such as pancakes and soft-serve ice cream topped with Furamaru Honey, which is produced right on the park’s premises!

Enjoy the Park Your Way

In addition to its extensive flower displays, Hamamatsu Flower Park provides recreational facilities, including walking paths, picnic areas, and open spaces, where you can relax and enjoy nature. Events are also held throughout the year—flower competitions, special exhibitions, botanical lectures, and educational sessions on plant care and maintenance. There are also gift shops and nurseries within the park, where you can purchase souvenirs, gardening supplies, and even your favorite flowers and plants to take home with you (for those residing in Japan, of course).

Hamamatsu Flower Park is not only a haven for flower enthusiasts and nature lovers but also a place that offers serenity and respite from the bustle of everyday life. With its scenic beauty, diverse flower collections, family-friendly amenities, and delightful cafés, this Hamamatsu treasure invites guests to immerse themselves in a world of natural splendor and tranquility.
