Speaking of Hamamatsu, you can of course find all the standard souvenirs such as eel, eel pie, Hamamatsu gyoza, etc.

Mikkabi mandarin oranges are mandarin oranges produced in the Mikkabi district of Kita Ward, Hamamatsu City.

Hamamatsu City has one of the highest amounts of sunshine in the country.

With abundant solar energy and thorough land management,

This sweet is made with plenty of Mikkabi mandarin oranges, which are said to have the highest production volume in Japan by local government.

 

This is not a limited edition souvenir, but it is one of my personal favorites!

Three-day Qingdao mandarin orange drop

A bite-sized jelly made with plenty of juice from Mikkabi Aoshima mandarin oranges. You can be very satisfied with just one drop ♡

 

Also, you can enjoy all-you-can-eat tea, which is rare in the service area!

As Shizuoka Prefecture is a tea-producing prefecture, there are a variety of tea leaves from eastern to western regions.

Another product is the “Unagiimo” series, which is likely to become a standard souvenir from Hamamatsu.

Sweet potatoes are grown using eel heads and bones that would otherwise be disposed of as fertilizer.

A sweet potato that is very typical of Hamamatsu Lake Hamana.

There are also pies, tarts, and cookies made with eel potatoes, so it’s hard to decide which one to try.

 

 

◇Hamamatsu service area (up/down)

The building in the Hamamatsu Service Area has a motif of white piano keys on the way down, and a black grand piano on the way up.

On the way up, a chocolate roll cake (ebony) with a black image.

Both are roll cakes made with plenty of locally produced eggs and milk.

It is wrapped in a cold sheet with an ice pack and frozen, and is ready to eat in 3 to 4 hours.

 

This is a Hamamatsu service area limited item that can be purchased on both the up and down lines.

“Mikkabi Mikan Baumkuchen” from the Yataro Group, which is also famous for Jiichiro’s Baumkuchen.

It is said to be a popular item in the Hamamatsu service area.

 

And this is not the only one, but this is my personal recommendation!

I didn’t know and was at a loss! Sugiyama Nut’s peanut butter is so delicious.

It’s a little pricey at ¥1,380/100g, but it’s surprisingly peanuts (lol)

It’s rich and quite delicious.

Gourmet

◇Lake Hamana service area

The food court has everything from noodles to rice bowls.

Outside of the food court, there is “Hamanatei” where you can enjoy authentic eel that does not seem to be a service area.

At the Gyoza/Ramen Hall, you can enjoy piping hot Hamamatsu gyoza from Hamamatsu’s famous restaurant Hamataro.

Outside, there are stalls lined with B-class gourmet food from Shizuoka Prefecture, as well as Starbucks and Baskin Robbins.

Furthermore, the Mont Blanc soft serve at the takeout corner is so popular that there is a long line.

It’s also nice to eat outdoors while looking at the view of Lake Hamana.

 

 

◇Hamamatsu service area (up/down)

At the food court, you can choose from a variety of things, from the famous Hamamatsu gyoza restaurant to the famous eel.

Hamamatsu City is the setting for the 2023 NHK Taiga drama “What’s Wrong with Ieyasu?”

It’s also fun that each store on both the upper and lower lines has a great value set menu entitled “Ieyasu Gourmet” (as of September 2023)

Also, Ueshima Coffee, which is located on both the upper and lower lines, offers different menus depending on the upper and lower lines.

Curry on the way up and pasta on the way down.

Norimori Ueshima Coffee also has an indoor dog cafe space, so you can bring your dog along.

◇Lake Hamana service area

Among the many service areas across the country, this is the only one with a sightseeing boat that you can board from the service area!

Local fishermen will guide you like professionals.

Cruise around Lake Hamana for about 20 minutes with light guidance.

You can see people enjoying marine sports at Lake Hamana, you can see the nature of Kanzanji Temple,

You can even see the fish jumping.

The experience of looking up at the Tomei Expressway from below is also very appealing.

Children (4 years old and up to elementary school students): 500 yen

Children under 3 years old are free; pets are also allowed on board for free.

*Tickets can be purchased from the tent next to the shopping hall.

 

The view of Lake Hamana from the lawn park is beautiful, and there is a sacred place for lovers there, where heart locks are also sold.

◇Hamamatsu Service Area

Hamamatsu City is famous as a city of musical instruments, as it is home to the headquarters of Yamaha, Kawai, and Roland.

The building in the service area also has a piano motif, and there is a “MUSIC SPOT” inside the store where you can actually touch musical instruments.

Also, in the SOUND LABO corner, you can learn about the mechanism that produces sound and the mixer that balances the sound.

You can learn and have fun.

 

Outdoor dog run corner ♡

Water supply and trash cans are also provided, so you don’t have to worry about it even on hot days.

The uphill dog run is particularly popular, as there are two locations, one for small dogs and one for all dog breeds.

 

All of the service areas introduced this time have a “Plat Park”, so you can go there without having to take the expressway.

By the way, parking at Plat Park is free. Hamamatsu citizens should feel free to come and have fun.
