On this visit, we visited Yamaha Innovation Road, a corporate museum located within Yamaha Corporation’s headquarters in Nakasawa-cho, Chuo-ku, Hamamatsu.

This facility is open to the public and showcases Yamaha’s journey of innovation since 1887, along with the technologies it has developed, the wide range of products it has created, and its vision for the future.
There’s plenty to see, including hands-on exhibits where you can actually play musical instruments and a “Virtual Stage” where you can experience music through the latest technology.
Even if you’re not familiar with musical instruments, it’s a place anyone can enjoy.
Let’s take a closer look at Yamaha Innovation Road! ♪
Opened in July 2018, Yamaha Innovation Road is an interactive museum where Yamaha Corporation’s products and services are showcased across 12 different zones.
Through sound, visuals, and hands-on experiences, visitors can fully immerse themselves in the world of music.

The facility was created as a place to share Yamaha’s DNA with both internal and external audiences, and in 2026, it marks its eighth year.
It also contributes to enhancing Hamamatsu’s appeal as a “City of Music” and supports local revitalization.
With advance reservation, anyone is welcome to visit.
“Since its founding in 1887, Yamaha has continually taken on new challenges throughout its long history. By drawing on the technologies, expertise, and sensibilities it has cultivated, the company has kept creating new value that resonates with people’s hearts. This place symbolizes that journey—Yamaha’s ongoing path into the future,” says Mr. Seichi Hashimoto, director of Yamaha Innovation Road.

Inside the museum, you’ll also find designated photo spots—be sure to make the most of them!
Centered around Yamaha’s corporate philosophy, “Sharing Passion & Performance,” the museum brings together past, present, and future craftsmanship in one cohesive space.
Each section is marked with a number for audio guidance.
By using Yamaha’s original “Omotenashi Guide”—which doesn’t require a dedicated app—you can listen to audio explanations while also viewing the text on your device.
For this visit, we asked Mr. Hashimoto, director of Yamaha Innovation Road, to share some of his recommended highlights.
Highlight #1: Musical Instrument Exhibition Area
The “Musical Instrument Exhibition Area” features an impressive lineup of around 190 instruments, including pianos, guitars, and wind instruments.

You can also try playing instruments such as the CFX concert grand piano and a Bösendorfer grand piano—one of only 25 units available worldwide—and enjoy the difference in their tones.

Even if you can’t play an instrument, these are all worth experiencing just to produce a sound and listen to their beautiful tones.

This area is especially popular with international visitors, many of whom spend a long time here.
The scale of the guitar display is one of the largest of its kind in Japan.
From children to adults, it’s a space that everyone can enjoy and a great place to discover new music.

也深受海外來訪旅客的喜愛,是許多人長時間停留的區域。
從小孩到大人都能樂在其中,成為與嶄新音樂相遇的場所。
Highlight #2: SUPER SURROUND THEATER
The “SUPER SURROUND THEATER” features a 108.6-channel sound system using 3D audio technology developed by Yamaha.

It far exceeds the scale of a typical 5.1-channel home system, allowing you to enjoy an immersive, out-of-the-ordinary experience with realistic sound coming from all directions.
Various content is screened here, including performances by the Yamaha Symphonic Band. Please check the schedule at the entrance.

Highlight #3: History Walk
The “History Walk” is an area where valuable historical items are displayed, including organs from the company’s early days.

You can also learn about the history of the Yamaha logo, known as the “tuning fork mark.”

In addition to musical instruments, around 200 items are exhibited here, including wooden aircraft propellers, motorcycles, furniture, and sporting goods.

This area has a strong museum-like atmosphere, where you can learn not only about Yamaha’s history of innovation but also how its musical instrument manufacturing technologies have been applied to other fields.
Highlight #4: Sound Area
The “Sound Area” features exhibits centered on professional audio equipment.
Here, you can even try operating a digital mixer used at live venues and experience what it’s like to “mix” sound.

At the very back, the “Virtual Stage” presents performances using a system called “Real Sound Viewing.”
With dedicated devices that vibrate real instruments to produce sound, you can enjoy music with a sense of realism close to a live performance.
Performance schedules vary depending on the day of the week.
Be sure to enjoy these impressive performances up close—you may find yourself wanting to listen again and again!

At Innovation Road, we introduce in full detail the history of product development at Yamaha Corporation and the technological advancements that have supported it.
We also offer many hands-on exhibits where visitors can actually play instruments and produce sound, allowing everyone to enjoy the experience in their own way.
Of course, visitors who are not particularly interested in musical instruments are also very welcome.
We would be delighted if you could experience Yamaha’s DNA in your own way, through your own ideas and perspectives.
We look forward to welcoming you to our comfortable and inspiring space.
In this article, we introduced Yamaha Innovation Road, a corporate museum where you can learn about the history of Yamaha Corporation.
We were truly impressed by the beauty of the facility during our visit.
Musical instruments are, of course, meant to produce sound, but we also felt that their exceptional design alone is worth appreciating.
In that sense, it is a place that can be enjoyed much like a museum.

Yamaha Innovation Road is a corporate museum that anyone can enjoy, even without the ability to play an instrument or any prior knowledge.
As it operates on a fully reservation-based system, visitors can also experience it in a calm and relaxed atmosphere.
It is a spot where you can truly feel the appeal of Yamaha firsthand, so we highly recommend a visit.
