Opened in Hamamatsu City in April 2021, Sweets Bank is a unique spot that instantly catches your eye with its giant chair and table—built at an impressive 13 times their actual size.

Visiting here feels like you’ve shrunk down to the size of a tiny person and wandered into someone’s home.

Shunkado—the company behind the famous “Unagipie”—has created Sweets Bank as more than just a photo spot.

Beyond its photogenic scenery, it’s also a place to enjoy exclusive, limited-edition souvenirs available only here.

The attached café serves excellent breakfasts, lunches, and desserts, making it a true gourmet destination as well.

In this article, we’ll take you through everything from must-visit photo spots recommended by locals, to limited menu items that often sell out, as well as tips for avoiding crowds and making the most of your visit.

What Is Sweets Bank?

Opened in April 2021, Sweets Bank is a unique complex created by Shunkado, the famous maker of “Unagipie.”

The facility was built on the former site of Shunkado’s head office and factory.

When the site was redeveloped, it was transformed into a multi-purpose complex designed around the themes of family togetherness and celebration, becoming a new local hub that connects the community.

Within the grounds, you’ll find a Shunkado directly operated shop, a café, a community space, the Hamamatsu Iwata Shinkin Bank, and Shunkado’s head office all brought together in one place.

In this article, we’ll focus on the main highlights for visitors—“SHOP Shunkado” and the café “Tora to Fuusen”—and introduce them in detail.

So Cute! The Most Photogenic Spots You Can’t Miss

Sweets Bank is also well known among locals as a popular photo spot.

Among them, we’ve handpicked the spots you’ll definitely want to check out.

Snap a Commemorative Photo with the Exterior

Let’s start at the entrance.

While the giant table and chairs may immediately catch your eye, be sure to also take a closer look at the finer details of the design.

Even the smallest details are carefully designed at 13 times their actual size, from newspaper articles to menu boards.

Outside the building, you’ll also find a giant milk pot, which has become a popular spot for commemorative photos.

Nearby, you can meet “Piggy,” the mascot of the Hamamatsu Iwata Shinkin Bank Morita Branch and Higashi-Iba Branch.

On the day of our visit, it was close to Christmas, so Piggy was dressed in a Santa Claus outfit, welcoming visitors in festive style.

At SHOP Shunkado, you’ll also find traditional Japanese sweets (Jo-namagashi) inspired by Piggy, as well as the limited-edition cookie “Okashina Piggy Can.”

There are also playful surprises hidden inside the modern space!

Stepping inside the space, you’re greeted by a sleek, modern setting featuring a giant egg stand.

Next, you’ll find this object placed near the entrance.

At first glance, it looks like a large pencil sharpener object… but it’s actually an umbrella bag stand.

Designed with a playful twist, umbrellas are inserted into the “sharpening” opening.

Further inside, at the café and bakery “Tora to Fuusen,” you’ll also find a white coffee pot and cup.

Peering into the coffee cup from above, you’ll even find coffee filled to the brim, carefully recreated in detail!

The cup’s saucer is designed as counter seating, so you can also enjoy a meal here.

Just inside SHOP Shunkado, on the left-hand side, you’ll notice another creative touch.

Take a closer look at the shelves, and you’ll find that they are decorated with the “Unagi Pie” pattern.

At the entrance of the Hamamatsu Iwata Shinkin Bank, you’ll also find a giant fountain pen on display.

A chair is placed behind it, so you can even sit down and take a commemorative photo.

And finally, there is actually one hidden “Unagi Pie” somewhere on the grounds of Sweets Bank… but finding it is part of the fun!

Be sure to look for it when you visit.

Café & Bakery “Tora to Fuusen” at Sweets Bank

Inside the facility, the café and bakery “Tora to Fuusen” offers dishes made with Shunkado’s carefully crafted brioche, as well as deli-style lunches featuring plenty of local ingredients.

Morning Menu (9:30 AM – 11:00 AM only): Thick Rolled Omelet Sandwich with Overflowing Dashi

The morning menu is available in two options: the limited-quantity “dashi rolled omelet sandwich” and “honey butter toast,” which lets you fully enjoy the flavor of the brioche itself.

This time, we ordered the “dashi rolled omelet sandwich.”

Sandwiched between soft brioche is a tender, jiggly rolled omelet.

The contrast in textures is simply irresistible.

As you take a bite, the dashi slowly seeps out from the rolled omelet, filling your mouth with rich flavor.

The homemade shibazuke tartar (tartar sauce with Japanese pickles) on top adds a pleasant texture and a subtle saltiness, perfectly complementing the sweetness of the brioche.

The set comes with pork miso soup made using aged Enshu miso, the same type used in Shunkado’s popular Japanese sweet “Miso Manju.”

With its gentle, comforting flavor, it’s the perfect way to start a relaxing morning.

The dashi rolled omelet sandwich is a limited-quantity menu item available only in the morning.

If you’re interested, it’s worth waking up early to try it!

Lunch: DELI LUNCH Set with Freshly Baked Brioche and Your Choice of Deli

From 11:00 AM, in addition to the grand menu, the “DELI LUNCH” is also available.

It’s a customizable lunch where you can choose your own main dish and appetizer, served alongside a farm-style salad loaded with fresh vegetables.

The main dish can be chosen from two options: fish or meat.

For appetizers, you can choose two items for the “DELI LUNCH-M” or four items for the “DELI LUNCH-L”.

*Prices are as of December 2025 and may be subject to change.

All deli items are plated right in front of you.

Since the menu changes daily, you can discover new flavors every time you visit.

Café: Here Are the Most Popular Menu Items!

Let’s also take a look at some of the café’s most popular dishes.

One of them is the “Toranda no Torotama Pizza Toast.”

It’s an original pizza toast made with soft, fluffy, and slightly chewy homemade bread.

For those with a sweet tooth, the “Toranda no Fuwafuwa Shortcake,” available only after 2:00 PM, is highly recommended.

It features a melt-in-your-mouth chiffon base topped with plenty of whipped cream.

“Tora to Fuusen” also offers a wide selection of takeout items, including drinks made with Unagipie and seasonal specials that are especially popular.

Souvenir Guide at Sweets Bank

If you’re looking for souvenirs to remember your trip to Hamamatsu, this is a must-see guide to items you can only buy at Sweets Bank.

Inside “SHOP Shunkado,” you’ll find not only the classic Unagipie, but also sweets in exclusive Sweets Bank packaging and a variety of cute, eye-catching confections lined up on display.

Here are some recommended items that are perfect both as gifts and for personal treats.

“Value Pack Unagipie” — Perfect for Both Sharing and Personal Treats

The classic souvenir from Hamamatsu, “Unagipie,” actually comes in four different varieties—did you know that?

In addition to the original Unagipie, there are also “Unagipie with Nuts,” “Unagipie V.S.O.P.,” and “Mini Unagipie.”

All of these varieties are available at SHOP Shunkado.

One item we especially recommend is the “Unagipie Value Pack.”

This product is sold exclusively at Shunkado’s directly operated stores, so you won’t find it at souvenir shops in Hamamatsu Station.

It’s perfect for those who want to enjoy plenty of Unagipie!

Buy Just One! Try and Compare Different Sweets

One thing that surprises many locals when visiting SHOP Shunkado is that many of the popular sweets are sold individually.

Products that are usually only available in boxed sets at stations or highway service areas can be purchased here starting from just one piece.

You’ll find a variety of sweets, including the Japanese-Western fusion pastry “Daichi no Pie,” featuring both chunky and juicy textures, the elegant lemon-flavored financier “Kimi ni Lemon,” and the local Enshu confection “Miso Manju.”

It’s fun to pick up a few different sweets to compare flavors, or simply try one that catches your eye before choosing your favorite to take home as a souvenir.

Eat In and Enjoy Fresh Sweets: “Saku Clair”

At SHOP Shunkado, you can also enjoy freshly made sweets available for eat-in.

The recommendation here is a yo-namagashi (Western-style fresh Japanese confection), “Saku Clair.”

This popular sweet is Shunkado’s original take on the éclair, with around 110,000 sold each year.

You can also enjoy Saku Clair at the eat-in space near the entrance of Sweets Bank.

This time, we enjoyed two seasonal limited-edition flavors, “Christmas Strawberry” and “Chocolat,” as an eat-in treat.

*Prices are as of December 2025 and may be subject to change.

The “Christmas Strawberry” instantly puts you in a festive mood with its cinnamon aroma and sweet cream.

Inside, you’ll find mascarpone cream, cinnamon custard, and framboise confiture.

Even opening your mouth wide, it’s almost impossible to take a full bite, with each ingredient generously layered on top.

The classic “Chocolat” features rich ganache cream and toppings, making it an irresistible combination for chocolate lovers.

The bittersweet chocolate and streusel keep the flavor from being overly sweet, resulting in a well-balanced and easy-to-enjoy taste.

The seasonal limited-edition “Saku Clair,” which changes throughout the year, is definitely worth checking out!

Please note that at Sweets Bank, Saku Clair is available exclusively at SHOP Shunkado.

It is not available at “Tora to Fuusen,” so please be careful.

You can enjoy it at your own pace in the eat-in space near the entrance or in the community space “Tsunogatatsu.”

Please note that “Tsunogatatsu” is available as an eat-in space only when no events are being held.

Freshly Baked Sweets

At Sweets Bank, freshly baked bread and sweets are prepared every hour from 11:00 AM onward.

Below is the production schedule from the day of our visit.

This time, we purchased freshly baked brioche as a souvenir.

With its rich buttery aroma and soft, melt-in-your-mouth texture, it was absolutely delicious.

One of the popular items is the “Hamideru Cheesecake Chou,” available only from 3:00 PM.

It’s an original cream puff filled generously with mascarpone cream, custard cream, and homemade cheesecake.

When Is the Best Time to Visit? Go in the Morning to Avoid Crowds

Sweets Bank is extremely popular, and during weekends or long holiday periods, it’s not uncommon to see long lines at the shop during peak hours.

If you want to avoid crowds, a visit in the morning is recommended.

You might wonder, “Desserts in the morning?”

However, there is also a morning menu available, and it’s a great time to take beautiful photos of the exterior.

On the Sunday morning we visited, there were very few other guests, and we were able to enter both the shop and café without waiting in line.

The seating area at the entrance was also available, so we were able to relax and enjoy Saku Clair on the spot.
